Every month, I go through all the canned goods in my pantry and pull out things that may be expiring soon, or that I bought thinking we would like them and I take a box to the food bank.  The food banks rarely have items sitting for more than a week and a hungry family will be grateful for the help.
 
Every season, I go through sheets, blankets, towels and other household goods and pack a big bag down to the mission.  If you get dental goodies when you having your appointments, collect them up in a bag...free samples of deodorants, hotel shampoos and soaps?  The homeless missions can always use these items...
