Why are we still shut down?

since mitigation does nothing but extend the time frame for the number of cases in order to prevent most of the cases happening within a short period of time, why are we pretending that mitigation will reduce the total number of cases in the long run?

As I said two months ago, it is better to get the virus over in a short period of time than to have it extend for months and months.

Remember, the only benefit to mitigation was to “flatten the curve.”  It was never going to reduce the total number of cases.

The down side of flattening the curve is that it extends the lifespan of the virus.

We destroyed our economy to prevent an overrun on hospitals, which was never in jeopardy of coming to fruition.

What do you notice about the curves release by the CDC showing the relationship between the number of cases vs. time?

The curve without mitigation shows a short timespan but a steep slope.  The curve with mitigation shows a long timespan, but a flat slope.

Both curves have something in common.  The area below the curves are the same.  That means the total number of cases over time are the same with or without mitigation.

Mitigation does not prevent the spread of the virus.  It just increases the amount of time for the virus to spread.  Now why would we want to do that?  The only reason given was to prevent an overrun on hospitals.  Now ask yourself, is that still an issue?  Are we still in danger of our hospitals being overrun?
