I quit giving to the panhandlers years ago because I not only felt that if I gave to one, how could I pass another by, but I once reached out to a gentleman whose sign said, Hungry, homeless, please help and I bought him some burgers, fries and a couple of hot coffees and when I stopped and gave it to him, he said thanks and as I drove away, he tossed the bag aside...I was p'o'd, to say the least, because I spent money on him that I could have fed my own kids with...we were never made of money, but it felt right to want to help...after that, I only gave to our food bank and local rescue mission.
