Each breed competes among its own and the standards do pit dog against dog, but dog against the standard...and those that best meet the standard move to group and on to Best in Show. So the judges are checking for correct coloring, confirmation, everything from weight, thickness of coat, straight teeth, proper bone structure. It does astound me that a dog so ugly is considered the "best".

My favorite pooch is the French Bulldog, but my husband is not a fan. Our grandpuppy is a Boston terrier, and is adorable, and he's a very similar to the Frenchie, but he's still not buying me one, LOL (average cost is $5000)... We have raised Dobermans, and even had a Tibetan terrier once...one of my favorites as well. |
