i am sometimes overwhelmed with how pathetically stupid and uninformed right wingers are...amazing lack of knowledge about almost every possible subject.  every country in the world has socialist programs, if they have a functioning central government.  some have more socialist programs than others, but all are socialist in nature.  all federal government, all government at any level is SOCIALIST IN NATURE.  goddamn, learn something...

Hoosier, the expenses you list, are government expenses, though several are not federal expenses, but whether state, local or federal government responsibility, your first post list where a reasonable person could conclude that the government should pay. The Military, for instance is a duty of the federal government. It isn't a private expense. That doesn't mean that because the government pays the bill for a standing Army that we are a socialist nation. I noticed that you didn't list any of the programs that might actually reflect socialism, such as Social Security. There would be a good case to begin phasing the program out, but it would need to be done in a manner that addressed those who already have been required to pay into the system. Education should be paid at the state level, but, that doesn't indicate socialism.

The United States is NOT socialist...but we have a Marxist-communist, socialist leaning President and that is a problem. Plus after spending several weeks on a cruise with Americans and other countries people...SOCIALISM is not what they want or expect from America...and more than a few expressed how screwed up our country has been esp. since Obama came into office.

learn to read...you people are trying to say a country can either be socialist, or it can not be socialist.  the real truth is, different countries have varying amounts of socialist programs.  no country on Earth today is totally socialist, not even Red China or Vietnam or Cuba or North Korea.  but they are the closest examples we have.  the nordic countries have democratic socialist forms of government with lots of private industry, venture capitalism, entrepeneurs, the whole nine yards.  same for australia, canada, japan, and all of our NATO allies.  the Post Office is definitely a socialist program, and it was created by the Constitution specifically.  you guys seriously do not have a clue what you are talking about.

You should first learn what socialism is
 
then read the Preamble a few dozen times.
 
 
For bonus points, read the US Constitution itself, where you'll learn that socialism is not in any way precluded and there is no mandate that America must be run to please private corporate interests in a capitalist economy over those of the People in general.
