The primary process was set up to give the people a voice, an orderly and substanitive voice...but caucuses continue to take over the process and shut out many.  WA state decided to forego the primaries this year in favor of caucus only (convenient and outrageous but that's another story)...many were turned away, and left the voices of the people quelled.
 
Why do we continue to give up our right to express our opinions on leadership?

That state had not used caucuses for 16 years, and they were badly done and do not reflect caucuses in general, which give people more of a voice not less. At a caucus everyone literally has a chance to stand up and make a statement in favor of their choice before the voting. People also select more than just delegates and choices and are also asked to consider volunteering for the party to get even more involved.

At a primary you just show up and mark some names and leave.
