"PROVIDENCE — Rhode Islanders shoulder one of the heaviest property-tax burdens in the nation, two new studies show.


 Rhode Island has the fourth highest property tax burden, ranking 47th of the 50 states, in a national property-tax index published by the Tax Foundation, a group in Washington, D.C., that monitors fiscal policy at the federal, state and local levels.
 Only Connecticut (48th), Ohio (49th) and New Jersey (50th) have heavier property-tax burdens, according to the Tax Foundation study, which counts local property taxes on land and buildings, as well as other levies, such as taxes on estates and on real estate transfers."
