Since the courts say you can have abortions, go ahead, our take on this is PAY FOR IT YOURSELVES.  We DO NOT want to pay for your wantoness.  If you can't take the time to use contraceptives, then cross your legs.  Our taxes should not go for your inconvient lust.   We believe it is murder, and we shouldnt be forced to pay for murder.

A lot of us didn't want our taxes to go to the war in Iraq started on lies and deceit.  We had no choice in the matter.  If you knew every little thing your taxes went for that you wouldn't approve of, your tiny little head would spin right off your stooped little shoulders.

You do realize, don't you, that it takes two to get pregnant.  Where is your outrage toward the male who skips off down the road when he finds out he got someone pregnant?  Why the double standard?  You obviously haven't had sex in so long that you've forgotten that a woman cannot get pregnant on her own.

Most of Planned Parenthood funds are expended on abortions.  And far too many females who go out looking for sperm donors nightly use this for birth control...as long as the taxpayers pay for it.

I saw a stat the other day that said.."That 47% of the pregnancies in NYC end up being aborted. And most all of them are funded by Planned Parenthood.

I am also aware if we fail to fund these free abortions that it will result in additional welfare down the road for our taxdollars for thse unwanted kids.

The major problem we have in this country is that too many of our citizens just flat are not willing to accept responsibility themselves for their actions.

They can always say; "oh well, we'll take care of this down at the clinic in a couple of weeks."

The taxpayers are tired of our taxmoney being used for these purposes.. And if congress can refuse to fund this...Good for them.

I understand your view... The government does not directly fund these abortions...HOWEVER, and this is a BIG HOWEVER.  They do provide Planned Parenthood with the facilities and the support to provide abortions.

There is a charge that Planned Parenthood allegedly charges for these abortions at will.  I guess it ranges by location.

I think it would be interesting to find out exactly how much they receive annually for providing these services from their clients and how much the taxpayers kick in.

Yes Virginia! There is a planned parenthood, and yes you may get an abortion there by choice anytime within the first trimester... Or they will provide phone numbers so you can find a provider if you are later in the pregnancy.

You're full of shit as usual Kensan.  Planned Parenthood has a legal obligation to their donors to report how their funding is allocated.  This information comes from their report to their investors. 

• 35% of their funding provides birth control
• 34% is for treatment of STD's
• 17% is for cancer screening
• 10% goes for prenatal pregnancy care, midlife medical treatment, and infertility
• 2% of their visits involve abortions

More than 3 million women, mostly low income, use their services each year.  And whether a woman is morally perfect or not, she still has a need for medical care.  Apparently you have never committed any kind of sin yourself or you wouldn't be casting stones at others.  From a public health perspective, it is crucial that STD's be prevented and treated, no matter how they are contracted.  Or are you ignorant enough to believe that nice married Republican men don't ever hop in the sack with prostitutes?

With the current cost of healthcare and the economic downturn of 2008, many people are left wondering how they're going to cover the cost of everyday and emergency healthcare, which sometimes may include the possibility of an abortion. The total government funding for legal abortions originates in healthcare policies and coverage, current Medicaid laws and government support and funding for private clinics that cater to women's reproductive health.
Identification

In 2007, the estimated number of legal abortions performed in the United States was estimated to be around 1.37 million. Ninety percent of these abortions were performed in the first trimester, and the other 10 percent were performed in the second and third trimesters. The National Coalition of Abortion providers estimates that the average cost of an abortion performed in the first trimester is around $350, while the average cost of a second trimester abortion grows to about $2,500.

The research group Alan Guttmacher Institute (AGI) estimated that the total annual cost of all abortions performed in the United States is around $980 million. While most abortions are done in private clinics and are not covered by government funding, there are a few government grants and contracts provided to abortion clinics. Planned Parenthood, for example, receives about $270 million annually from government funded grants (see Resources below).

History
Abortions have been performed for many centuries before there were any legal repercussions involved. In the late 1800s, abortions were performed by non-traditionally trained women healers. In 1803, Britain passed an antiabortion law and individual states in the United States began to follow suit. By 1880, most of the United States had banned abortion and it stayed this way well into the twentieth century. By 1970, some states began to amend the antiabortion laws and several private organizations began to aide women in covering the high costs of these abortions with loans and other services.

After the Supreme Court legalized abortions in 1973, Medicaid covered its costs for eligible women. In 1977, the Hyde Amendment (see Resources) banned Medicaid funding for abortions unless a woman's life was in danger.

Considerations

Seventeen states fund abortions at the state level. While Medicaid is a federally funded health insurance program that funds legal abortions when the mother's health is at risk, it is estimated that only *****1 in 5 Medicaid-eligible women receive this funding. Government aid for abortion procedures aside, there is still the issue of government funding for the teaching of abortion procedures.******

It has been estimated that 12 percent of the OB/GYN residency programs in the United States train in first-trimester abortions, and an even smaller percentage, only 7 percent, train their residents in second-trimester abortions.

Effects
Because of the raw debate over the morality of abortion, government funding has been slow coming and limited. Limited government funding for legal abortion procedures has had a greater impact on poor women, women of color and young women. Experts believe that those women who cannot afford the high cost of private abortions run the greatest risks when it comes to the dangers of illegal and self-aborting procedures. Even with the legalization of abortion in 1973, 75 percent of women that year obtained illegal abortions from unlicensed practitioners or by self-aborting. Ninety percent of the legal abortions performed in the United States that year were done on white upper-class patients.

Theories/Speculation

Many people point out that legalized abortion means very little without proper funding. The necessity of abortions has not decreased since it has been legalized, and many women, especially poor and young women, find themselves self-aborting because they cannot afford to pay for a safe and legal abortion. Without proper government funding, women resort to dangerous and often fatal methods of abortion, which oftentimes don't even work. When self-aborting techniques do not work, women are often forced to seek expensive medical treatment anyway.

If you want to know where Planned Parenthood's funding comes from, Kensan, do your homework.  You're speaking from ignorance just like most of the other people on this thread.  You might be surprised to learn that the internet has more to offer than right wing blogs.  Most of Planned Parenthood's funding comes from over 700,000 private donors, some of whom specify that their donations cannot be used for abortions.
