I have one of my Voids that has taken ill. The vet said it MIGHT be FLV, but couldn't be sure until the bloodwork was done. She's anemic and lost half her weight. In an attempt to save her, he gave meds to administer. Now this became a problem because she was born feral and has never liked being held or confined in anyway. I knew trying to give her 3 doses of oral meds each day wouldn't work because even in her condition, she would hide when I got close after the first dose. So I checked with the vet and got the ok to mix it in with wet food. So I bought a bunch of single serve packets to feed her with. The first couple of days, she only ate about half of it. This morning, 2-2-25, she ate all of it. Her eyes are clearer and she's walking better. Fingers crossed that she'll pull through.

Her name is Pita, and yes that means exactly what you think it means. She was born feral. My late wife and I figured she was the runt of the litter and got left behind when the mother moved the other kittens. Even at about 10 weeks, when we grabbed her, I needed to wear leather gloves to keep from getting scars LOL!

Took her back to vet today, she is making a great comeback according to the vet. While she is still anemic, and not completely out of danger, she is looking good. He is encouraged for a complete recovery.

Today the vet said that she is almost back to normal. A couple more weeks of meds to just make sure and no reason to bring her back. He told me that he honestly didn't think she'd make it. And credited me for doing such a good job of taking care of her.

I hope Pita is doing well.  We adopted a feral a couple years ago and he's become a very good mouser, but still manages to wreak havoc in the house, as he believes he owns the house now.  I have had several "voids" in my day, they were always demure, always the most loving as well.  We had one that went through the fan blades of a car when she used an engine bay to stay warm...cut her from stem to stern, but managed to avoid any organs...about a million stitches later, she came home shaved and sewn...when her fur returned, she had the most incredible deep red streaks where every slice was, and was even more beautiful.  She gave us 3 litters of babies and was the best mama. 

Cats are like the part of our inner psyche that we hide from the world, but they complete us.  They can be fiercely independent one moment, and need the most love and cuddling like a baby the next.
