The New York Times reported on Oct. 4 that looking at Australia, which doctors often do to predict the severity of the U.S. flew season, this year could be one of the worst yet. In 2017, Australia experienced its most severe flu season, and six months later, when winter rolled around in North America, so did the U.S., with approximately 79,000 dead. This year, Australia was hit even harder.

It is true that some people never feel the need for the shot and never suffer, but it's also true that you can harbor the flu virus and make others sick.  The virus can be contagious as many as 5 days AFTER any symptoms appear, so for those who may just get what they think is a slight headache and/or sniffles, yep, they probably actually have the virus and can infect others.

I was terribly sick about 2 or 3 years ago, despite the shot...I got influenza B, in late Spring...but worse than that, I got pneumonia...and because I already have a compromised immune system, I was sicker than a dog and to this day, I still don't feel like I've fully recovered.  I get winded much easier, have frequent shortness of breath with any exertion, and despite any multitude of tests and x-rays, the doc hasn't found anything...and can only attribute it to that bout of pneumonia.
