Have you gotten your annual flu shot, yet?

Will you get a flu shot this year?

If not, why not?

No.  I rarely get the flu and when I have it's not a big deal.

We've had one every year for 30 years...that's when our preemie newborn came into our lives and the doctor said to help protect him, it would be best if we all had flu shots every year.  So we have.  We used to have a "family outing" every year to the local health district to get them, because without insurance, we could get them free or for about $5 for a family of 4.  Then after we got insurance, we would go to the clinic, now, the hubby and I get them at work, at the annual flu clinics.

We still encourage our kids to get them too.  Most places offer for free or very reduced prices.

There are still plenty of people who don't get them and our factory is like a walking petri-dish anyway, so I keep the Lysol and Purell wipes handy and keep my can of Lysol spray at my desk.  I spray the whole area weekly...

No.  I never have.  Too many strains to account for them all.

Nope.  I haven't had a Flu Shot since the early '90's and haven't been sick since then either. No cold - no flu for over 20 years.  Thats what happens when you allow your immune system to work like its supposed to.

Well, my Immune System was shot down pretty much a few years back while undergoing Chemo for Liver Cancer.

It's slowly coming back, but it's not as robust as it would have been if not for the Chemo.

My various Doctors insist that I get it along with Hepatitis, Zoster and Pneumonia Shots.

A healthy Immune System is a Blessing for those that have one!!

Thank you for your comments.

I guess I forgot to mention myself.

I used to believe getting sick for a few days was a good way to force myself to take some time off and lose some weight.  Then one year, got the flu from hell.  Lasted 10-14 days.

The shots are free from work at the home office or through health care insurance at almost any Walgreens, CVS walk-in clinic or at the doctor's office.

Medical science recommends that people my age get the shot.  I understand, for now, it doesn't cover all the possible strains, and sometimes they get it wrong.  Much better odds getting the shot, than not.  They're getting better over time.

Many in my second family have breathing problems.  A large percentage of them die from pneumonia and other effects of the flu.  CDC estimates that up to 42.9 million people got sick during the 2018-2019 flu season, 647,000 people were hospitalized and 61,200 died.

I think tcb suggested fellow workers don't get the shot, get sick and then show up at work.  If you skip the shot and get sick, please refrain from spreading it.

I get them every year, but get the flu once every 5 years.

Wife never gets them, but rarely gets the flu.
