Butterflies

I don't think monarchs live on any thing else.   Milkweed is toxic to critters, the caterpillars munch away and accumulate enough toxin to protect them from things that eat caterpillars, and butterflies.  Evolution has taught most such critters that eating the caterpillars or butterflies will make you very sick or possibly kill you. 
I have some very big hungry lizards in my yard, I saw them sitting on rocks in the sun and rushing down to grab various bugs.  They didn't bother the monarch caterpillars that crawled by them across the lawn to climb my patio wall to turn into chrysalis. 
The adults don't eat but drink flower necter, of any kind.  They are top lever pollenators.
For some reason the photo won't post but Donna snapped one sucking up the juice from a hibiscus flower.  I try it again.

I see the Monarchs on my tall garden phlox and zinnia.
