Many treasures were saved but no word on the rose windows as of yet.  This photo was the latest...



Our younger son also spent time in Paris...it was his senior graduation gift, with a tour group from his French class and he brought back some of the most amazing photos.  Truly a piece of art, let's hope the damage is not so extensive it cannot be saved.

France responds to Trumps STUPID suggestion to use airborne water tankers.


President Donald Trump's suggestion for fighting the massive Notre Dame fire did not get good reviews.

Tweeting that it was "so horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris," Trump added: "Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out.
Must act quickly!"

Professional firefighters called Trump's proposal impractical at best. Deploying the kinds of airplanes used to fight forest fires would be dangerous in an urban area,
they said, noting that force of the water could knock the building down and threaten firefighters on the ground.

"The drop of water by air on this type of building could indeed result in the collapse of the entire structure," the French government civil defense agency tweeted.

It later tweeted out a statement in English, in an apparent response to Trump, saying that "hundreds of firemen of the Paris Fire Brigade are doing everything they can
to bring the terrible #NotreDame fire under control. All means are being used, except for water-bombing aircrafts which, if used, could lead to the collapse of the entire
structure of the cathedral."

The French newspaper Le Monde derided Trump's plan as "impossible."

A dozen Catholic churches have been desecrated across France over the period of one week in an egregious case of anti-Christian vandalism.
The recent spate of church profanations has puzzled both police and ecclesiastical leaders, who have mostly remained silent as the violations have spread up and down France.
Last Sunday, marauders set fire to the church of Saint-Sulpice — one of Paris’ largest and most important churches — shortly after the twelve-o’clock Mass.

Police have concluded that the fire was the result of arson and are now looking for possible suspects. The restoration of the church from the damage caused by the fire will reportedly cost several hundred million euros.

In the US, heavy fires are often attacked from the air...that's what he gauged.

The French fire alliance corrected the statement by pointing out, it may do irreparable damage.

I'm sure the Donald didn't say it just to have it excoriated by the media, but everything he does is.

It depends upon the method of drop!

Limiters are available for structure fire drops to reduce the likelihood of damage resulting from the drop!

A drop of chemical fire retardant would have worked with far less likelihood of damage for instance!

Additionally a CO2 drop would have killed the fire without doing any damage!

Chemical retardant couldn't get inside where the fire was without knocking down the building.  They were trying to save as much of the structure as possible.
The hoses on the roof were for cooling things down.
