Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) is being ripped to shreds by Twitter after voting to expand President Donald Trump’s powers over Congress. Sasse’s problem is that he touts himself as a Constitutional conservative, so giving the president the authorization of declaring a national emergency to pay for a pet project is hypocritical.

He joins 19 other senators who are up for reelection in 2020, and of those 20 Republicans, all but one voted to expand the president’s powers. At least one senator, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-SC), said that he refused to allow the national emergency to go through. But when it came time to vote, Tillis backed down, fearful of possible primary challenges from Reps. Mark Meadows (R-SC) and Mark Walker (R-SC), the Washington Post’s Robert Costa tweeted.

Sasse has made a name for himself over the past year by demanding respectability in politics, but when it comes time to vote, he follows the party line. “Pray for his spine,” said one person, while another noted his vote is very “on brand.”

In 1976 democrats controlled the house and senate. SO THEY VOTED FOR AND PASSED THE BIL IN THE HOUSE AND SENATE. And now democrats are against it. WHY?

The democrats in 1976 did.  Although they had no idea at the time it would be used for this.

That was a pittance.  Not nearly enough to do the job.  So Trump invoked the 1976 authorization to fill the funding shortfall.
