Trump admits he didn’t actually need to sign an emergency order

“I didn’t need to do this,” Trump said of the emergency order. “But I’d rather do it much faster.”

Admitting this could undercut Trump’s legal argument that he had to declare a national emergency to stop border security, as it is difficult to argue that you needed to do something when you admit that you didn’t need to do it.

The power of the executive order is pretty broad.

If Congress were to stop putting so much energy into hating Trump, and start doing what is best for our nation, we never would have come to this point.

Multiple Congresses and Presidents have FAILED miserably to properly address full border security, enforcement, and ending illegal immigration.

This is just ONE part of what needs to happen and everyone needs to press their members of Congress to make E-verify mandatory and permanent for every employer in the nation, end birthright citizenship for any child not born to two US citizens, and take away the condition that employers will not face penalty for "unknowingly" hiring illegals.

It's time.  It's past time.

IMHO Trump shouldn't have used an emergency order for the wall. We would have been better served had he used the military (homeland security) to protect our borders from human/drug traffickers by building walls..

National emergencies are no big deal.  There are over 30 currently in effect and 4 of them (including this new one) were first declared by Trump.

Not necessarily accurate Chuck. the next President could declare portions of the wall a national ecological emergency, and have it torn down. The wall stops the migration of many species of wildlife. He/she could declare it a national economic emergency due to the fact that ranchers depend on access to the Rio Grande for their livestock. Again, ordering portions to be torn down.

Exactly what the next president will do if this one is allowed to declare an emergency where none exists. If he can do it by redirecting money from the DOD, so can the next one. Wake up.

Our President could have just ordered the Army Corps of Engineers to start building and be done with it.

He has access to all kinds of funds to use for the purpose which have already been approved by Congress.

No, that would raise some constitutional issues too. He can only use those troops for national defense. Not as a construction crew to build a campaign wall.
