I'm not sure if the media is overplaying the "outrage" over this ad,

but Gillette released a new ad, addressing bullying, and "toxic masculinity".

What are your general thoughts on this?

Is this Man shaming?  is this overplaying this "phenomenon" of toxic masculinity? 

or do you believe this to be legitimate and find nothing wrong with it?

I just don't care.  I am more concerned about the fact that people spread the ashes of their dead at Disney parks.  Truly gross and I won't be going there ever again.

In a way, it is man-shaming and pussifying. 

I think men need to be strong, they are supposed to be the ones to defend others.  They built this nation, they defend this nation and others.  Yes, the roles are changing, but men, should take the lead.

I also think that it's also true that men must hold other men accountable, not to bully, not to harass, not to kill each other on our streets to prove their superiority in the realm of the lowest, most vile gang warfare.

I have not heard there was a controversy over this.  At least they weren't showing men shaving their legs and bodies so they could dress up like women...I guess that might have been controversial.  This, I think asks men to hold each accountable and teach the next generation to show compassion.

My wife agrees with you btw, especially regarding the comment of men needing to be strong, and manly.

I don't have a problem with it, but I can see how the right wing media would be outraged.

What they forget is that it takes a strong person to stand up to the bullies.
It takes a strong person to intervene when the bullies attack their prey.

Basically, I think what Gillette was going for was "do the right thing, guys."


Men can be strong AND kind.  Strong does NOT mean that you have to be mean and cruel.

nothing wrong with getting people to talk about it.  it is a problem in this country and it won't go away by ignoring it.  men are not any more pussies than they used to be- hell, trump was alive 50 years ago being a gigantic pussy and sexist.  men who treat women like cavemen would are assholes and wimps.  not strong and brave.
