Memorial Day...

...every year when we are out and the Veteran's are offering up poppies, I am reminded of this...





In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
    That mark our place; and in the sky
    The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
    Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
        In Flanders fields.

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

That is so beautiful.  Did you watch the Memorial Day celebration concert on public broadcasting last night?  It was so moving and hosted by Gary Sinise.  He does this every year.

We only caught part of it.  We spent most of the day burning slash and working in the yard.

This morning we, as every Memorial Day, we went to the local Memorial Day service, and afterward headed to a local car show.

We got home and I made us some ribs and salmon for dinner and now, we're waiting for a rhubarb/strawberry crisp to cool enough to eat with some ice cream (sugar free of course)... 

I used Truvia in the crisp so I hope it turns out like I remember my mother making it...

It was indeed yummy.  I served it with sugar free vanilla ice cream.
