Sad discovery...

I found out my niece and her family are moving back to our hometown, and she will be living rather close to her great-grandma's house...so I did some checking online so I could get a picture of it for her...and found out my aunt and her husband sold it last year...or someone sold it, because they were using it as a rental for decades but it was listed as a HUD property now...Grandma would be rolling over her in grave to know they let it go to pot or sold it.  That was the one promise made to her before she passed...the uncle who lived with her and in that house his entire life, until his death, kept it up immaculately, so I have to wonder what they did to make it end up a HUD home...

It has the most amazing fireplace, that my grandfather toted every stone from the river to build...

Look at all those ornaments on the stone fireplace.  I bet the house was full of family keepsakes.

After my grandmother died, my uncle kept the house exactly as she had kept it.  The aunt and uncle who took it over after he died, made all the changes...even though it was built in 1925, their updates were mostly to flooring, HVAC, appliances, paint.  I just can't imagine it becoming a HUD home, they were fairly well to do and I haven't heard anything from their kids about their health failing or there being issues.
