does anybody know how to stop the slide from getting bound up a a jacket zipper ?

it gets stuck on that stupid flap of cloth that covers the zipper teeth

does cutting it off make it ugly ?

Might be the design of the garment the way the material catches.  I actually got stuck in a coat once and had to climb out of it.  I ended up returning the thing to Macy's.  Try a tiny bit of grease on the zipper slide and teeth to make it move more smoothly, but not so much you get it on the garment itself.
