to the civil war and post war southern jim crowe reconstruction

to the new deal and ww2
to the post ww2 era of segregation
to the 1960's civil rights movement

the centralized/federal political party is liberal
the decentralized/state political party is conservative

Thomas Jefferson (democratic/republican party) was from Virginia and a slave owner
he was a part and beneficiary of the north/south constitutional compromise of a 3/5ths vote for southern slave owners
I speculate he would have been have been a proud state's right confederate son of the south during the civil war
