While cleaning out the yard...discovered bags of ant repellant buried in the ground...what an idea...to bury undergound and puncture holes in the bags...

Now I wonder could that work for fertilizer

It may, if it doesn't overdose the plants it was meant to feed.

I had a tree that was not doing well.  An arborist suggested to "force feed" the roots: take 5-10-5 fertilizer, punch holes around the root line (1 inch diameter and 1 foot deep), and fill the holes with the fertilizer.  The grass grew nicely around the rings as the fertilizer dissolved with waterings and fed the tree (which recovered quite nicely).

But, I can't say how much would be too much.

I meant great idea for ants. I would not try it  with fertilizer.

Fertilizer would just burn the entire area.  Too concentrated.
