   HONOLULU    (AP) -- The summits of Hawaii's Big Island could get more than two feet of snow, with a winter storm warning in effect through Saturday.
Yes, it snows in Hawaii, Matthew Foster, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Honolulu, said he had to explain to some surprised out-of-state callers Friday.
"Typically when we get these snow events, it does get a lot of attention," he said, adding that he explains to curious callers that the snow is falling in a small, remote area where there are mainly telescopes and scientists. "We do have very high mountains here."
Once they realize the heights of the mountains, snow in the island state makes a little more sense, said Ryan Lyman, forecast meteorologist with the Mauna Kea Weather Center. Mauna Kea is nearly 14,000 feet above sea level.
The weather service forecasts new accumulations of about a foot of snow Friday night through Saturday. An additional foot is possible Sunday. Temperatures are in the mid-20s to lower-30s.

I have a buddy that lives there. I talk to him every week since we are in a football pool together and have to name our picks.
This week it has been rainy there, but that happens every winter. They are also facing their winter temperatures, low 80's-hi 70's.
But snow on the tops of mountains? At 14,000 feet? In winter? Whoever heard of such a thing!  Better sound the alarms!

The summits of the mountains on the Hawaiian islands get snow a lot...the way our local news portrayed this story was very misleading, making it sound like if you were going to Honolulu for the holidays, you better bring a parka.



It's all about the elevation up in the mountains...

D2D weather, that is what they have when it snows on Haleakala. 
The climate in hawaii isn't getting cooler.

It can't predict "weather" a century in advance.
Democrats don't do weather, they leave that to scientists.
Anyone making a prediction about climate in 100 years is making a estimate based on what has been happening.  All indications are that it will continue to get warmer.
