The point is, the seller can set the price anywhere he wants, but there are limits on the seller's profit that are controlled by external factors he has no control over.  He can't just willy-nilly maintain the current price because his expenses (taxes) go down and expect to maintain the same sales volume.  His competitors expenses will also go down and adjust their prices for maximum profit according to their sales volume.  There is a sweet spot where the product of profit per unit and sale volume give maximum total profit.  And those two quantities are not independent of each other.  Each seller will find that sweet spot as the marketplace readjusts.
