so you think all those guns were smuggled into the country and passed on the streets?  You think you can provide some justification of your beliefs?

In 2006 in the United States, 2.6 million people abused prescription drugs for the first time.

A 2007 survey in the US found that 3.3% of 12- to 17-year-olds and 6% of 17- to 25-year-olds had abused prescription drugs in the past month.

Prescription drug abuse causes the largest percentage of deaths from drug overdosing. Of the 22,400 drug overdose deaths in the US in 2005, opioid painkillers were the most commonly found drug, accounting for 38.2% of these deaths.

In 2005, 4.4 million teenagers (aged 12 to 17) in the US admitted to taking prescription painkillers, and 2.3 million took a prescription stimulant such as Ritalin. 2.2 million abused over-the-counter drugs such as cough syrup. The average age for first-time users is now 13 to 14.

In response to the problems with the prescription drug abuse we've passed some really tough laws recently on how easy it is to get these drugs. Are you saying we should be doing the same for for guns and how easy it is to get a gun, pass some really tough laws.

We have those laws wvit. We just need to enforce them.

People lying on NICS checks should be investigated and prosecuted. People who shouldn't have guns that are found in possession of guns should do a mandatory jail sentence.

Passing new laws we can't afford to enforce will accomplish nothing.

Stop and frisk in high crime areas would be a good start.

They do it in airports all the time wvit. Why not extend that practice to high crime areas?

Also, is stop and frisk a greater sin than eliminating due process by being put on a terrorist watch list buy a government desk jockey?

Personally, I'm technically opposed to both actions for the same reason. Our Constitution.

But I will agree we need more police presence in high crime areas.

Stop and frisk is one of many exceptions to the warrant requirement.
Stop and frisk is also an exception to the probable cause requirement. Probable cause is needed for a warrant, but not for all seizures. Other exceptions don't require probable cause, either.

The Supreme Court defined a frisk as a carefully limited search for weapons, limited to someone's outer clothing. To justify a frisk, an officer needs reasonable belief that the stopped person may be armed and dangerous.

Reasonable suspicion can be based on:
  • Facts seen and interpreted by police, light of training and experience
  • Informants' tips
  • A profile, such as a drug courier or gang member profiles
  • Information shared by police departments
  • Presence in a high crime neighborhood
  • Unprovoked flight after seeing police
  • Information gathered during a voluntary encounter

Isn't it amazing how the left lumps in felons and criminals in the "Innocent" category?

In an airport you agreed to the frisk and search when you bought the ticket.

For a frisk, reasonable suspicion must justify the stop, and that the suspect is armed and dangerous. The government must show two reasonable suspicion types for a frisk:

A reasonable suspicion criminal activity may be afoot before the stop
A reasonable suspicion someone may be armed and dangerous, before the frisk
