I realize your narcissistic personality often times clouds your ability to understand logic... but which part of democrats would ban private ownership of anything but single shot rifles/shotguns, were they able to get the votes and have a political Supreme Court?

I might favor registration if the system would include criminals. In fact,  I'd favor testing the system on them first. But the U.S. Supreme Court, in a  widely known case (Haynes v. U.S., 1968), had determined that a felon  who has a gun cannot be compelled to complete such forms, because it violates  the Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination. That's right, mandatory registration in the case of a criminal -- is a self-indictment  of a crime, and is therefore prohibited.

The innocent would have to register to remain legal, the illegal possessor could not register without violating the right to not incriminate yourself.

Gun-control advocates have been pushing for a ban on "assault weapons" for more than 25 years. This proposal is essentially a political gimmick that confuses people. That is because the term is an arbitrarily defined epithet. A federal ban was in place between 1994 and 2004, but Congress declined to renew it after studies showed it had no crime-reducing impact.

President Obama points to the mass confiscation of firearms in Great Britain and Australia as models for the United States. Such confiscation would be impossible, as a practical matter, in the United States, and if it were attempted, the consequences would be catastrophic.
