What's disappointing to all levels of human life and intelligence is that there are right wingers that will condone what this homicidal goon did just because he was a cop, and many will try to deflect from this case by bringing up other cases that have no bearing on this one. They cannot defend the actions of the cop in this case, so instead of admitting it, they try to deflect and change the subject.

The Chicago cop will walk. He has been charged with first degree murder. In most states first degree murder requires malicious intent and premeditation.
Those requirements would force a jury to acquit. Had they charged him with second degree he most likely would be found guilty.
Look, say what you will but when the city paid out 5 mil to the family already we know that the cop did something egregiously wrong.
The only satisfaction the public will get is the knowledge that he will no longer be a cop, but probably get his full pension..
 
 
Doesn't a jury have the option to find guilty of 2nd and not guilty of 1st?  Or does a judge need ti give the jury that option?

The prosecution has to give them the option by filing both charges. Which they tend to do for murder 1 cases.

I am not anti-police, but they do need to start weeding out the bad apples.
 
It would take roughly 2.5 minutes for the ACLU to file a lawsuite that the standards are to high for minorities, or women, or <insert your favorite less fortunate demographic here> OH NO wait!!! that's already been done.
