From time to time our president accidentally does something that, while not without risk, could help American. I watched on Fox News how Obama's allowing Russia to invade Syria he has given them a golden key to run the energy rich Middle East. It isn't that easy. Russia would have to win and it is more than possible that Russia is headed for a long hard second Afghanistan. While I  have reservations about how Obama has handled our fight in Afghanistan, he has done better than Russia did.  I Russia is unable to secure the current regime there and is drawn into a long costly war with little return, American influence becomes the premier in the region. We become the force to be reckoned with. I am not ignorant of the reality of what happens if Russia is successful, though it is not as likely if ISIS is as prominent as reported by the main stream media. Russia is not as guaranteed to prevail as is being broadcasted. I may not be as hostile towards Obama's allowing Russia to invade Syria. It has risk, but,  it also has potential rewards for America. The longer Russia is there the better it is for America.

The problem with the USSR in A-Stan and the US in A-Stan is the same   A-Stan is not one War.  It is dozens of Wars simultaneously.  Separate individual Wars with each and every Tribe  and Religious Sect in the country.

The only possible solution is a total takeover and full occupation.  Even that might have to be held fora few generations to make it stick.  Things are not much different with Syria or any other Middle Eastern country.
