This figure has become canonical among those seeking to justify the bombing. But it is not supported by military estimates of the time. As Stanford historian Barton Bernstein has noted, the U.S. Joint War Plans Committee predicted in mid-June 1945 that the invasion of Japan, set to begin Nov. 1, would result in 193,000 U.S. casualties, including 40,000 deaths.

More Japanese were killed with B-29 firebombing than with both atomic bombs which were tiny by today's standards.   Japan would not surrender and Truman kept U.S. boots off the ground in Japan that would have resulted in millions of deaths as well as the Russian agression...

By August, 1945, US armed forces had effectively destroyed Japanese naval and air forces. The weapons you've cited would have had little or no effect at all and would not had prevented (or postponed for any great length of time) the inevitable and imminent defeat of Japan.

Japan would not surrender and Truman kept U.S. boots off the ground in Mainland Japan that would have resulted in millions of deaths combined as well as continued Russian aggression headed for Japan...
