I tried to find out with no luck. Sorry. We don't have them up here either, at least not that I know of. If can get a hole of a wildflower book you will find them.

The leaf has a bit of a dahlia shape to it, could they be a variety of dahlia?

There are also wild hibiscus that that that bloom pod, and I know hibiscus are popular down south, could it be that?

It looks more lie a hibiscus to me too and  most likely would grow there.

The flower is called ladyfingers and grows along railroad tracks and remote ponds.

That first one is the plant that many people mistake for a pot plant...the second one looks like Okra...(blech)...
