Hawks... May I ask "Do you have a plan that will work better and be less costly than the current one?"  What makes me think that you do not. 

As for gun laws...they don't get much more restrictive than Chicago's laws... However, that doesn't seem to stop the street violence.

You're confused again, D2D. When did I ever argue that defensive gun use (DGU) and criminal use of firearms are not discrete? But that's beside the point: At issue here is the true cost of gun violence in the United States, not whether DGU and criminal use of firearms are totally different. Why do you continue to attack straw men and ignore the original topic?

Gun violence is pervasive in the USA; actually it's epidemic. And your argument is the typical argument gun nuts use to rationalise that epidemic gun violence and the high costs associated with it.

In countries that have banned guns, gun crimes have gone up!!!

The law-abiding people are without guns for protection and the criminals KNOW this!!

The law-abiding people are literally defenseless!!!

It's the CRIMINALS that commit the gun violence and the CRIMINALS will ALWAYS find ways to have guns.

Why would any intelligent person want to take guns away from the law-abiding citizens? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

BTW....  Drug abusers always find ways to get drugs, especially the illegal drugs. How would making guns illegal be any different? How about prostitution? How about drunk

You're avoiding the issue:

The issue at hand isn't defensive gun use vs. violent crimes committed by offenders with guns (Reply #28).

The issue isn't a comparison of different causes of deaths (Reply #30).

And the issue isn't whether more guns in a society reduces criminal activity in that society (Reply #31).

The issue here is the true cost ($229 billion annually) of gun violence in America. Remember?

When you break down gun violence demographically, you find clues to the social problems with crime.    Same with the idiocy of trying to ban certain semi-auto firearms when according to the FBI, nearly twice as many people are killed by hands and fists each year than are killed by murderers who use rifles, any type of rifle.

But people, especially anti-gun nuts, are motivated by emotion over facts...
