Church That Booted Gay Choir Director Folds
 

A Methodist church in Indiana that had most of its congregation walk out after its new pastor fired a gay choir director is closing. First United Methodist Church in Alexandria will have its last Sunday service on December 28 for the remaining 20-30 members.
 
The church made news a year ago after Adam Fraley's firing and the large number of congregants quitting, but Pastor David Mantor claimed the closure "is not due to that situation whatsoever."
 
 
David Steele, a former lay leader for the church fired from his position for advocating Fraley's rehiring, said about 80 percent of the congregation left when Fraley wasn't allowed to return to his position.
 
Steele, whose father was a pastor for the church, said at one time it had 700 members.
