Thirty years ago the impact of such a storm in that part of the world would have been minuscule. Today the population there is very large by comparison.

There is a lesson to be learned about human nature when it comes to people being desperate and hungry after the riff raff just loot to loot.

In Mexico you are screwed with being able to use self-defense with firearms when a catastrophe hits so you are reliant on a corrupt government.  Joy.   The founders of the U.S. may not have been perfect but they understood human nature better than the founders of any nation on this planet.
