7.3 million in Obamacare plans, beats CBO forecast

There are 7.3 million people enrolled in health insurance plans on the Obamacare exchanges, CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner told Congress on Thursday, the first update since enrollment ended.
 
The figure represents the number of people who are signed up and paid up as of Aug. 15. In May, when the administration issued its last update, just more than 8 million people had chosen plans, but not all had paid.
 

The enrollment figures surpass the earlier forecasts, particularly after the botched launch of HealthCare.gov slowed signup to a crawl last October. The administration released the update as it gears up for the second open enrollment season in November — and as the Obama administration comes under renewed attack from the GOP for security flaws at HealthCare.gov.
 
“We are encouraged by the number of consumers who paid their premiums and continue to enroll in the marketplace coverage every day through special enrollment periods,” Tavenner told the House Oversight Committee.
 

Tavenner told the committee that the enrollment numbers fluctuate slightly as people move in and out of the system. Some people sign up and don’t pay, but others come in and out because of job or family changes that affect health coverage.
 
Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) called it a “precipitous drop,” but Tavenner said it was a “really strong number.”
 
The insurance industry had estimated that roughly 15 percent — estimates ranged from 10 percent to 20 percent — of the enrollees wouldn’t pay up. The main industry lobby had no comment on Tavenner’s announcement. But, in general, the insurance industry is increasing, not shrinking, its footprint in the exchanges in the second year.
 
It was the first official enrollment update since shortly after the open enrollment season ended in April. At that time, 8,019,763 had chosen health insurance plans, but not all had paid premiums. The Obama administration had not released any enrollment updates since early May, much to the frustration of Republican critics of the health care law.

Before the Obamacare scam was passed into law the figure for those uninsured was 35 to 45 million. Now you say that 7.3 million is something to cheer about? Tens of millions hard working Americans who were insured before Obamacare now find themselves under insured and driven toward poverty because of this vile legislation.
