Manuel Ramirez, 42, was shot in the head as he was drinking a beer by his trailer in New Castle, Deleware, Tuesday evening.
 
The victim had just returned from a long day of outdoor work, and at least one of his young children was nearby.
 
His family believes the shooting may have been a case of mistaken identity.

Neighbors, who declined to give their names out of fear of retribution, said they heard what sounded like a single firecracker.

His wife went with him to the hospital, Vasquez said, and two of their children were with police. A third remained in the neighborhood in the care of another relative.

Ramirez was sitting in a chair between the truck and his home, having a beer after a long day of landscaping. The assailant walked up and shot him, relatives said.

Two other people from the neighborhood had a problem with some men Monday when they went to a liquor store in the adjoining Star Center strip mall.  Family members think one of those men may have come to the neighborhood looking for the men involved in the dispute and shot Ramirez, Vasquez said.

The shooter was said to be about 30 years old, bald, of average build and wearing a green/blue shirt, Duffy said.

Police released no information about the investigation or what may have led to the shooting.
