It amazes me that here we have a post with the revelation that this shooter was able to exist and purchase his weapons courtesy of his government unemployment check and  instead of discussing how something like this could happen and be rightfully outraged over the assistance he had in his murderous rampage - all the left on this Board can do is quickly deflect with snide remarks.  It's getting old!

If you got all that from Sine's post you must have read a different post than I did.  The usual news the media doesn't tell you kind of blog.
He posted a blog with some links in it.  They expect lazy readers to not check the links.  None of the links say Holmes was getting government checks.
I don't think students can even collect unemployment, if they can things have changed since I was an unemployed student.
He apparently did get a grant.

Hey lots of nuts go into the mental health field.  He must have been pretty bright to get a grant that paid his tuition and something else.

I agree that he was pretty bright...............or maybe "brilliant" would describe him well.   Isn't there a saying that there's a fine line between brilliance and insanity?
 
So he was awarded a $26,000.00 federal grant but it must have come with explicit conditions and rules that he had to follow to be able to exist on it.  If he dropped out of the program then you would have thought that the money would have been withdrawn or stopped as soon as he did that.  He had purchased all kinds of weaponry, bullet proof gear and all kinds of chemicals and explosives - enough to blow up a whole building where he lived, so where did the money come from to enable him to get all that and did he do this before he dropped out?  I guess as the story unravels we will find out.

I never read any where that his parents are poor.  They live in a upscale area of San Diego, not the cheapest place to live.   
He may have even had jobs, but students are not normally eligible for unemployment.
I never had a grant, so I have no idea how they operate, but yes I suspect there are conditions that have to be met.  I doubt he will ever be in a position to pay the government back.

Government did fund the shooter but not in the way Sine had hoped!

I posted that information earlier in this thread, and they sure didn't intend to fund the shooter, any more than unemployment is intended to be used for crimes.
