Using a "smart phone" to post

While on our trip, I was going to post on our adventures, but even though I could sign in, start a topic, type in the subject line, there was no post box to type in. The smiley icons were were, and the spot at the bottom to post, preview and spell check (but not save as draft, or attachment areas) but I couldn't type anything but the subject.

Does anyone know what the problem was? Does something have be downloaded?
