Title: Hot, Hot, Hot...
Post by: takncarabizniz on 06 23, 21, 11:31:56:AM
and getting hotter!  The weather prognosticator says we could 100* this weekend!  We have to drive to Montana and I'm so worried about having the dog in the car in this heat...

Hopefully they get it wrong and it's cooler.

Much needed rain from storms has kept the temperatures down here in central north Florida. Lows for the next week are forecast around 69 to 71and highs around 80 to 85. It is 80 at my house now at 2:45 EDT. The temps will likely rise and stay higher in about a week after today's full moon.

So sorry about your heat wave,  taken. My weather is  even cooler than Lady's this week. I sat out back photographing butterflies most the day. A perfect 10 day...and ditto tomorrow.

The predictions for the Pacific northwest these next coming days are dire.  Portland and parts of Washington State are supposed to hit over 100 degrees.  I'm in the foothills of the Cascades 15 minutes out of Salem and the past two days the temperature was above 90 degrees.  My son having lived in Las Vegas thinks its quite pleasant but there is such humidity here and its not comfortable.  Our air conditioning is on the whole time and I'm praying the system won't go into overload here and there will be massive power cuts.

Supposed to hit 115 degrees in Salem and Portland this weekend - the highest temp in history for this region.  I hope they're wrong (https://www.aesopsretreat.com/forum/https://www.aesopsretreat.com/forum/Smileys/classic/angry.gif).

Just came home from a trip back to Montana for a funeral.  it was 114 across eastern WA and 106 when we got home...ugh...

But it was totally worth it.

Just checked in to check on my PNW friends.  Daughter lives in Kirkland, been hotter than in Hemet the last few days.  Hemet cooles off quick at night Kirkland doesn't.  Was 104 here today and was 77 at 8pm.  77 is what we have the AC set on 24/7 this time of year.  Thing is we have AC nd most of our Washington family don't
With the AC running full time our electric bill has been negative with solar panels.

Meanwhile I still miss living in the PNW.

Predicted 93 today and didn't even rate a heat warning.  Humidity is 54% and will drop some as it heats up.
It is cloudy and lightening and showers are deamed possible.  Monsoonal storms from out in the South Pacific. Something that was rare when I was young growing up in So. Cal., which we have had a little each year since I moved back in 2018.
I chated with my sib on the phone and told them when I think 93 is cooler I must be acclimating pretty well.

I love the idea of both solar and wind power, but my husband thinks the initial costs and potential costs for battery storage will be too much for us to see any benefit before we leave this Earth.

Nice to see you Don.  I've been in San Dimas at ny daughter's for a month and have been back in Oregon for a couple of weeks now.  Over the weekend Salem hit 115 degrees and set a record.  We live a little east of there and it was like an inferno stepping outside.  I have had my AC set at 76 running non-stop  but put it down over the 2 day heatwave.  I was more comfortable in sunny so. Cal than I am here in Marion County Oregon.

There are incentives in Calif at least that will put solar and batteries on your on and in your home at no cost out of pocket.  Fact some will get a little cash.  This lowers your electric bill some, and the electricity you produce pays for the equipment.  Friends in Lodi had solar installed five or six years ago.  Their bill went from over $300 a month to less to an average of $126.  They will own the solar panels out right after ten years.
There may be such programs in Washington.
My sister already had solar panels on her house and checked into batteries.  They would cost her 25K.  She is buying an inverter to charge an electric car, and a used Nissan Leaf for less.  the battery in the Leaf is supposed to power her house for three days in a power outage.  She has a negative electric bill now.  At all electric care charges will do that.  It has to be a special inverter.
She lives in Sebastopol California and doesn't have AC.
My panels were paid for when we bought the house.  They mentioned the several time when wee were looking!  We pay a small service fee from zero to around $10 a month to the grid owner.  So.Cal. Edison.  We have received a check for power we produced once a year for between $200 t0 $350.

Hi Em!  Nice to hear from you too!  I'm sure you had AC in San Dimas, can get hot there too.  Very hot a few days back.
I was close to you several times too.  I go to Loma Linda University Medical Center to deal with my Cochlear Implant processor.  Trying to get an updated one.

I missed your post about your husband.  I very sorry for your loss.
