The end of January is upon us!

It's been a pretty rough start to 2020 for us.  Our daughter's close friend from college years moved up to Portland from California with her family a number of years ago and every time our daughter comes up they get together and we get to see her.  Excitedly she told me that they had bought a house about 20 minutes from us in Salem and escrow was to close Monday Jan 27th.  We even discussed that it would be like family moving close to each other.  The Thursday before this on the 23rd, she rushed her husband to hospital with a heart attack.  He was in there overnight and responded well to the treatment and they released him Friday afternoon to go home.  On the drive home he suffered a massive heart attack as they drove up to the house and died before the paramedics arrived.  It's been a terrible shock all around - the house closed escrow in her name only and the funeral is this coming Monday.  Our daughter and son-in-law are arriving Sunday night to stay for a week.  We are all shattered.  We never know what life has in store for us but this is something we could never have imagined.  I will be glad to see January go and hope we can have a better February.
