Republicans Barely Questioned the Witnesses. They Went for Delay Tactics, Half-Truths, and Utter Bullshit.

The case is simple. The president* abused his power in pursuit of his latest scam.

The President* of the United States ran a cheap-assed, third-rate shakedown of the new president of an embattled ally for the purpose of enlisting the new president of the embattled ally in the ratfcking of the 2020 election. Both of those are crimes. Putting them together is a third crime.

Because, as was obvious from every second of the minority’s participation in Tuesday’s hearings, there simply is no defense for what the president* did.

George Kent and Bill Taylor were exemplary witnesses. (Taylor, in particular, could develop a lucrative side gig consulting for law firms as to how prepare people to testify.) They never strayed beyond their obvious mandates, which was to tell the story of the shakedown from the point of view of career diplomats who suddenly found themselves submarined by a cabal led by the president*’s half-mad personal lawyer.

And Kent was firm in his testimony that neither Joe Biden nor his son, Hunter, had done anything untoward as regards the removal of a corrupt state prosecutor.

Trump called Sondland while Sondland was in a Ukrainian restaurant, speaking on an unsecured phone, loud enough for other people at dinner to hear.

One of those people was David Holmes, a staff member of Bill Taylor who testified today. Holmes will testify later this week, Sondland will testify next week.

Holmes reported to his boss, Taylor, that he heard the contents of the call with Sondland and those contents are this:

Taylor said the staff member, now known to be Holmes, asked Sondland after the call what the president "thought about Ukraine."

"Ambassador Sondland responded that President Trump cares more about the investigations of Biden, which Giuliani was pressing for," Taylor said,
indicating he was not aware of the conversation at the time of his deposition in October, and only learned about it last Friday.

Of course they are their best witnesses, because they are first, front and center.

The fact is, the president of Ukraine said several times he wasn't under and pressure to do anything.  That's a fact.   In fact, he didn't do what Trump wanted, anyhow, and he got a heap of military aid to boot.   That's a fact.  The fact is, Ukraine is notoriously corrupt and that is a great concern.  The fact is, there are no facts to the contrary.

The fact is, that doesn't mean that he lied.  That's a fact,.  You can suppose all day long why we might have lied, but that doesn't mean that he lied.  That is a fact.  The fact is, you have no facts that prove that he lied.  I don't think the people of Ukraine think their president is a liar, or that he wants his people to think he is a liar, even though youse slime balls do.
