Title: Another 7" overnight...
Post by: takncarabizniz on 02 11, 19, 11:31:27:AM
snow weary...

I am thinking we've gotten over 30" total since this all started last Monday.  And it's been so cold, it's not going anywhere.  My husband went out and shoveled another path for the dog, and by the time he came back in, it had started snowing again.

My poor little lace-leaf maple...and if you look in the background, the weight of the snow and ice has brought the huge cedar branches down to the ground and buried them as well.

Oh No!  It looks like you're living in a massive snowdrift.  Pretty though.  When I was in the market on Thursday there were tons of people with overloaded shopping carts stocking up for the huge snowfall that was going to keep us inside all weekend.  It never came!  Just snow flurries, freezing rain and sunshine breaks.  You got it all where you live takn and in other parts of the State too, I believe.

I meant to add that I hope you didn't lose power in all that snowstorm.

We haven't, thankfully.
But this afternoon, the weather service is predicting more snow, icestorms, high winds...yikes!

We're getting very high winds at the moment and freezing rain.  I bet the snow is holding off here until tomorrow when I have to go to the retina clinic for more torture!

We started into work and got town and turned around.  The snow and winds are here now and the white out conditions even scared the hubby.

The roads into town are an utter mess.  The plow came through early this morning and buried our driveways, we had to dig out just to exit.

I spent the morning clearing paths around the house and to the dog kennel, but Ozzie was sure glad to see us when we pulled back in.

It just won't stop!  Still snowing this morning (8am 2-12-19) and we got at least another foot overnight.

I swear, I'm so tired of it.  We'll likely miss another day at work.  That's going to be a mess to recover from...but we just can't risk it.

Going to have to try to clear the deck...it's getting scary deep and if it gets too heavy, it could collapse.

This must be the very worst you have had it.  Praying for it to stop and go away!

i'M SO TIRED OF DIGGING, LOL
Poor Ozzie now has an igloo, not a kennel (but it's actually really warm inside).

Just saw on the news tonight how so many dairy cows froze to death this week in Washington State.  I think it was Yakima.  So terribly sad.

The footage was so hard to watch.  Those poor 'working animals' with no shelter huddled together and froze to death.  So many of them

Yes the bitter cold, deep snow, and ice have been taking its toll.
The blizzard conditions saw something like 40" of snow, and -18 degrees.  This type of weather is unusual for the area.
Cattle are "open penned", with huge shed roofs, but able to move about freely...part of the issue was that water troughs froze, despite efforts to use heat and blowtorches to keep them open.  Hay was blown away, or covered and frozen in the ice and snow.
This is in stark contrast to the horrific penned conditions that organizations like PETA rail against, and WA farmers do not practice, as more humane.

The dairy farmers spent countless hours trying to help, but it did little good.
