Why should the Democrats come back and vote?  So trump can veto any bills passed by Congress  or not sign. Several bills have already been passed, that trump said he would approve, then every time he is spooked by the Conservative news networks, then trump changes his mind.

Trump has a much power to approve/disapprove legislation as the Congress does.  Currently, the two don't agree on the legislation at hand so nothing gets passed.  That is not new, and the solution always is to resolve differences with give and take, compromise.  That's how it works.  As it is, the Ds won't negotiate any further.  There is nothing they want in exchange for border wall funding, nothing on God's earth, not even an agreement to fund government now if they fund border wall later.   It is not unusual that one side gives something up they don't think is necessary in exchange for something they do want and think is necessary.  What is unusual, is refusal to compromise at all.  The Ds are refusing to compromise, at all.  So, here we are, no deal agreed to by Congress and the President and so no legislation is passed.  The Ds do not think that reopening the government, or anything else on the planet, is worth giving up money for a border wall, not yet anyway.

Do you knw the definition of Compromise Chuck? Trump has claimed he would not budge from the nearly 6 billion dollars. How is that compromise. The Dems haven't shut off the faucet for border security. They have said they will vote for border security funding that actually provides security, not a stupid ineffective wall. The bill does not address the illegal immigration/border security problem.  According to the president and his staff, the people responsible for enforcing our laws and national security, addressing the problem requires more wall, among other things.  No big deal.  Just do it.  What do the Ds want in exchange for such a minor concession.  They have no request.

The Rs don't have 2/3 either checks & balances.  To override a presidents veto, take a by-partisan effort. 2/3 total votes (Ds & Rs combined votes) in the House and 2/3 total votes (Ds & Rs combined votes) in the Senate. 

You do know Chuck.  The Ds are now able to pass legislation in the House without the Rs.  But the Ds need the Rs to override a veto, as do the Rs need the Ds to override a veto.  After the House passes legislation, then it is sent over to the Senate.

The bills the House passed, are bill that open the Government until Sept. 2019.  The one bill passed by the House is to open DHS until Feb 8, 2019.  This gives Congress some time to work out a deal with trump while opening the Government. Just because the bills do not include trump's unnecessary wall doesn't mean the illegal immigration/border security problem isn't being address...

I'm smart enough to figure out that there is scant chance that Congress has the votes to override a veto given 2/3 of two houses are needed, but hey, go for it.  It's a waste of time.

Trump will not sign any bill to reopen the government because the Ds said even if he does they will not fund more wall afterward.   They won't address the problem.  He might sign a bill to pay employees, however.

The border wall was never a compelling issue with the GOP.  Then trump said he was going to build a big beautiful wall along the US and Mexico border and Mexico was going to pay for it, knowing that Mexico would never pay for it and the wall would never be built 

Then trump tried to put fear in the voters by shouting at his rallies, that the caravans were coming, the caravans are coming. they are going to kill every American.  When the fear tactic didn't work and trump and the GOP lost the House to the Democrats, trump and the GOP decided to use the wall as a means to shutdown the Government.

And they succeeded.......................   The saddest thing about it all, trump, McConnell and most of the GOP'ers, just don't care, not on bit......

Bottom line:  Democrats were in DC passing bills, Republican Senate was no where to be seen.
