Take a look at what your current home looks like after a snow...

Better yet, put your old address when you were a kid and try to remember.

Looking at our old home from 60 years ago, it looks like a warehouse now.

If it wasn't 620 miles away, I would go there tomorrow to see what happened to the old neighborhood.

I bought my home in 1989 for $95K, in 1999 it was appraised at $375K, that appraisal dropped to $175K by 200, and has now climbed back to $295K. The value doesn't matter a lot to me personally, since I have no plans to sell. I wouldn't mind if it it went up some more so when I die, my daughter can sell it for more. Otherwise, higher value only means higher property taxes, which I don't complain about since that's what covers much of public school expenses.

My antique browser doesn't display that site properly for me,
but I have used Google Earth for a similar purpose -
I was able to use Street View to look up the addresses where I've lived
and see what's there now,

some of the military housing complexes I lived in as a kid are still there -
one in San Diego was converted from enlisted to junior officer's housing,

one in Panama is now the site of a hotel since we gave that base back to Panama,

another that had a drive-in movie theater directly behind our house
[so at night we could sit out back and see the screen at an angle
and enough sound leaked from the cars so we could hear the movie - sort of;] -
the house is still there but the drive-in is gone now, replaced by a condo complex.

My childhood home was razed because it had become uninhabitable and we couldn't afford to fix it anymore, despite my mother's insistence that she was "going home soon" every day in the nursing home.  She eventually agreed to sell the property, but only to a non-profit, so Habitat for Humanity came in and built a little cracker box; but it was built by the local high school kids as their annual construction project in shop.  That part was very exciting to watch.  My only regret was not requesting they maintain certain trees.  All but one maple right on the boulevard, were taken down, including my mother's prize winning lilacs (I did manage to get some cuttings before though).

Ken....  Very interesting.  Thanks for sharing.

We've been lucky.  We sold about 5 years before "they" took over the neighborhood each time in the past and always doubled our $$$.

Now, we live so far away from any of "them" that they'd need to stay overnight somewhere in order to get here!!!

Plus, we live in a gated community with 24/7 security.  And, whenever one of "them" even comes into our town, they get pulled over
for "a traffic/equipment issue" and are thoroughly checked out. Few of "them" ever try coming around here any more.  It's very nice.

We've lived in this home for 25 years... We've often thought about downsizing - about 3850 sq ft. 4 Bedrooms, 2 fireplaces, 3 car garage in a great neighborhood. A lot more home than we need.

However, it is a damn comfortable home... so we're trying to downsize without moving.  It ain't working...my son is just about to lose his happy home if he takes in anymore family junk.

As long as I can pay the taxes... I guess we'll stay here. At least until I check out.
