but as to our response to the pearl harbor attack, that was a military attack carried out by forces of the japanese military using their planes and soldiers ordered to attack us from the country of Japan, a clear and identifiable enemy.  9/11 was carried out by 19 terrorists, most of them from saudi arabia and funded by assholes in saudi arabia, led by bin laden, as leader of al qaeda, a loosely organized group of maybe 10,000 at the most with no air force, navy, regular soldiers, or even uniforms.  a much more nebulous and harder to identify enemy.  that being said, bush did the right thing and ordered an attack on where bin laden and the core of al qaeda was hiding out, in the uncontrolled remote area of the tora bora mountains and caves in afghanistan close to the pakistan border.  but he fucked that attack up big time.  did not send in enough troops, did not get pakistan to help us or allow us to close off the pakistan side of the border in that area and prevent bin laden and the core of al qaeda from escaping.  and 6 months after 9/11 rich boy bush said getting bin laden was no big deal.  so we let him escape?  so what?  that is what happens when you elect a rich boy frat rat republican who doesn't have a clue to be president.

My brother, who was one of the first wave into Afghanistan said that had we simply carpet bombed the mountains, in the beginning...we could have saved many more lives than we lost and the cost of cleaning up and restoring the honest and mild Afghanis would have been far cheaper.
