Title: Art imitating life
Post by: emilyB on 08 08, 15, 05:01:20:PM
Started watching the second season of "House of Cards" last night.  Kevin Spacey is excellent as POTUS and such a slimey one.  Robin Wright (she dropped the Penn name) is excellent as First Lady and so manipulative.   Makes you wonder where the writers got such compelling material from.  (http://www.aesopsretreat.com/forum/Smileys/classic/wink.gif)

Oh my...LOL

We don't watch much TV beyond the fishing and hunting shows, car stuff and the news.

I have 2 that I watch, Project Runway and Say Yes to the Dress and I try to catch up Big Bang Theory when I can.  But our On-demand has been down for 2 weeks now and now they have to send a tech out.

I believe House of Cards is a Netflix product but maybe you can buy the series on Amazon.  It is so well worth watching.  For $7.99 a month Netflix has quite a lot to offer and there are so many English series to watch as well - some that we don't get on PBS or OPB.

tv  is a bunch of crap, mostly about 99%

I gave it up 5 years ago an dont feel so dumb as many I know who still watch do (http://www.aesopsretreat.com/forum/Smileys/classic/rolleyes.gif)

I can now tell the watchers from the enlightened now just by talking to them for less than 5 minutes~! (http://www.aesopsretreat.com/forum/Smileys/classic/grin.gif)

Turn it off,

you wont believe how much of a change you'll have for the better.

I don't feel at all dumb watching it as, although we all know it is fictional, it's a real expose/ of what goes on in government and it leaves nothing to the imagination.

yep, "suspending disbelief"
is the first cognitive function to go after he frontal cortex is turned off when watching TV!

The frontal cortex is where we make decisions.

Lots of movie and TV stars wont let their kids watch it at all or only an hour a day.

Wonder why>???

I haven't watched that one JTF although I wish I had started as my friends who watch it really love the series.   The trouble is I would have so much catching up to do and I need to preserve my "cognitive function", hahaha.

Consider the Underwoods as the Clintons and the entire series will make more sense.  I've finished all current seasons, so I won't give anything away.

I did hear that Orange is the New Black is very addicting.

When I first started watching House of Cards it reminded me so much of the Clinton's and all the shenanigans that go on in government.  Very true to life.

I prefer real life, no watered down for TV consumption like Schindlers List!

truth is stranger than fiction!

I'm addicted to Investigative Discovery Channel. People are really evil.
