Title: a bit of history
Post by: caserio1 on 03 25, 15, 04:46:26:PM
stalin figured that 20 million russian dead was a fair price to pay for eastern europe

when truman saw that he got word to the japs that they'd do better with the us alone without

the land grabbing stalin

the abomb was the  closing argument

the rest is history

Actually he wanted their help against the Japanese.  (He didn't really know that much about the A bomb then, and a long and bloody war was expected.)  The USSR and Japan, were neutral towards each other.  The soviets even interned American air crews that flew to Russia after attacking Japanese and not be able to return to their home base.
FDR got them to release the crews, but they broke down and copies B 29s.  Their main long range bomber for many years was that copy of the B 29.
When Stalin saw he wasn't going to grab any more of Europe, he did attack the Japanese, and grabbed a Manchuria and some more.  Russia still has given Japan back some of its traditional territory.  Kuril Islands for instance.

Hasn't given the Kuril

Fact is when the Japanese did surrender the Soviets kept attacking them and grabbing more.

when truman saw the intransigence that was the stalin mo in europe he wanted no part of their

participation in the occupation of japan

he actually stated that the russian dead paid for the occupation of eastern europe and the american

approach of aiding a defeated enemy was anathema to him

they had to pay for not fighting hitler enough

that was the core of the dispute between russia and the us

it is not very clear I see

stalin despised helping a fallen enemy

there no way to stop stalin in europe short of a 3rd world war

stalin claimed that 20,000,000 russians were killed fighting hitler and he wanted revenge

there is no way hst was gonna get in the same pickle in japan if he could help it

communication between combatants is always possible
