Title: Prayers for locals buried in a mudslide
Post by: takncarabizniz on 03 23, 14, 12:10:30:PM
Our area is reeling after a massive mudslide came down outside the town of Oso Washington...killing 3, sending 6 more to hospitals in critical condition and another 18 still unaccounted for.  There is up to 60 feet of mud and debris potentially burying these poor people and at this time, absolutely no safe way for rescuers to get to them as the mudslide is still moving and has, in fact, completely blocked the North Fork of the Stilliguamish River.  When the blockage lets loose, it will likely cause massive flooding.  Water is pooling up behind the blockage and it's only a matter of time until that blockage cuts loose.

Please pray for our brothers and sisters in this region, and for the rescuers who are trying to find a way to get to those who may be buried in this massive slide.

Thank you.  The death toll has risen to 8, and 108 people are now unaccounted for.

The whole area is completely devastated, entire neighborhoods are gone.  I believe they said about 20 homes were completely destroyed and there is no word on how many animals were killed, this was a very rural area.

We continue to wait and worry and want to help, but right now, our Red Cross local is only having us help solicit funding...I am more prone to want to give goods, since, although I have long been associated w/ RC, I am less than impressed w/ their funding structure, so giving of time and goods is more to my liking.

If people are inclined to help, I recommend giving donations to The Salvation Army.
