Title: Prayers for a cousin
Post by: takncarabizniz on 03 08, 14, 04:19:34:AM
I just received word that a cousin, only 57 years old, suffered a stroke and is nearly 100% incapacitated.  He was found on the floor of his apartment the day after he didn't show up for work.  Having lost my brother to a massive stroke at just age 49, and knowing the family propensity for heart and stroke fatalities, I just ask that prayers for strength for his two sisters during this difficult time, and for him to be able to recover enough to enjoy more years on this Earth .

No age is good for a stroke, but 57 and especially 49 is way too young to have one.  I'm sorry to hear this.

I spoke to his sister last night and was told he's now more cognitive but has so far to go.  He cannot walk and has a lot of trouble just focusing his thoughts long enough to be able to try and get a point across.   He starts therapy this week and will move to the local nursing home for rehab.  He will likely never regain his full faculties.  Very sad, given he was a forester and ranger.  But it speaks very definitively to the notion that we cannot take our health for granted even one second.  His depression over losing his mom last year and suffering other health related maladies is likely what brought him to the low point that led to his stroke...overeating, too much drinking and depression...

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers everyone...I'm keeping my fingers crossed....
