Always Wrong -wvit. That is who Southern democrats were running from. Today we call them the #Walk-Away movement. Southern democrats, or I should say the Christians were NOT inline with this idea of slavery, they never were, but they were afraid to speak up. It was the plantation owners of the south who wanted slavery. Until a President came along that they could trust that was against slavery they had to keep their mouths shut. But Lincoln sure put a wrench in THAT conveyor line! Christian Southern democrats couldn't wait to switch sides, and they did so in droves! That is why Democrats created the KKK, to keep the newly freed blacks in-line and to punish those Democrats who they called Traitors for switching sides. And just like those Democrats of today who try to blame Republicans for burning down Democrat Party headquarters or make up Racist signs to show off at Republican events to show Republicans are Racist - just look at the signs, the Democrat of the old south (and now) tried labelling them as Racists.
